About

Hi there! I play and review any game I can get my hands on, although otome games are my primary focus. In addition to the occasional unboxing, every December I write up an annual overview for all the games I played that year. If there’s a title or genre you want me to check out, let me know in the comments.

I also fan-translate otome games on my own time. This is strictly to practice my Japanese skills, and as such, I’m not getting paid to do this.  If you’d like to donate, you can do so by purchasing something through any link on this blog. I earn a very small commissions rate this way, and all earnings are used to purchase new games that I’ll review or translate. (I am affiliates for CDJapan, Mangagamer, and Amazon.)

Lastly, if you’re interested in learning Japanese to play otome games, I’ve written a post on how I managed to do just that. You can read it here. Thank you so much for stopping by. I hope to see you again!

* If you can’t read something on my blog, please feel free to let me know. I want everyone to be able to have an easy reading experience, and if there’s any way I can help you, I’ll do what I can.

that would be amazing but im not really good at this yet xD I know all the hiragana so far but im starting to forget I don’t have enough practice >.<

Yeah I started to forget too but I decided to write them all down in a notebook over and over again. After, I started reading the hiragana in Pokemon roms in Japanese or manga that I purchased on Amazon. If you buy used copies on US amazon, you can get really cheap Japanese manga.

Can you download roms? If not, try finding songs you like and try to follow along with the Japanese lyrics. Don’t feel bad if you start off really slow or the kanji intimidate you. I finally have started to be able to follow along.

oh yeah I can download rom even tho I feel so bad about it >.< and yeah I know it's normal to be slow. I used jisho to try to learn the kanji and all. I also use rikaichan. the worst is to learn the 2 different ways of saying it and all that implies

Lol yep I hate how each kanji has nearly 2+ readings. Crazy! And I felt bad too so I started buying the roms I downloaded. Of course, if you download pokemon or something they make a ton of money off their games and if it’s an older game I really don’t see the harm. Not many people still play their older games.

Haha great! The only problem is that pokemon is nothing but hiragana and katakana. You’d think that’d be easier, but without kanji, you won’t know which word they mean unless you understand the sentence. X/Y OR/AS have the option to use Japanese language instead and oyu can choose to use hiragana only or some kanji. And there’s furigana included. If you have a vita, I highly suggest you pick up an otome game. Everything is voiced and you can repeat what they’ve said.

Yeah I was 13-14 when I stumbled upon YouTube through my brother’s PC, after Sailor Moon OP getting linked. There I discovered after a while I could find so many shows. I just gobbled everything I could find (it also helped my English xD ) and I watched nonstop for some three years ヽ(*≧ω≦)ノ
Pokemon is universal (though I’ve not played yet any) just like Dragon Ball everyone knew but nobody knew it was Japanese xD

Oh srry I have one more thng: On my Reviews under mobile otome, do you get a list of games that open to other pages when u click on the link? When I try it, it lists at first one of the items, but then a bunch of things I never linked.

        Watch the original but I’d say skip to season 3 if you want a good narration/good story. Crystal…has many animation quality problems. As in really janky faces and horrible, horrible animation sometimes ;_;
The original is superb animated, really. And if you like third season a lot and become a fan, you can go back and watch from the beginning.
Sailor moon has live action version too, and musicals. And stage plays. So whichever you want, you can do it.

        No problem! ~(^з^)-♡

Awesome! I will watch the original then! Thanks so much-I’ve had so many recommend Crystal but I wasn’t sure because the original is almost always the superior one.^^
Whoa there are plays and a live action? That’s really cool!

Crystal is new and has 3D and is shiny but…it isn’t how I would want anyone to experience SM for the first time (╯3╰)
Original is always better because they made it with love (and by hand back in the 90’s) instead of a quick (outsourced) cash-in with severe flaws and barely there animation.
If you like the third season, I’d say look at the live action if you’re interested or like LA adaptations. I’ve heard good things, I still have to watch it and the musicals and plays because there’s so many and so much. SM is like an endless fruit, the fruit that keeps on giving xD
(Though I say that about mangas like One Piece that will never finish by this rate)

Good luck and hope you enjoy it! The first season is like monster of the week and meeting the inner scouts, so it gets a bit tiring. Second has Chibiusa, that’s why I recommended third. It gets the kickass gay scouts appearing and slaying ❤

Oh if you love older anime…mind I recommend you Escaflowne? My favourite, it is so good. The art takes a bit to get used to, but it is amazing. OST, characters, Hitomi is the protagonist and she’s amazing and grows a bunch ❤

IKR? A blu ray version from Funimation is coming out too!!! Well that’s if a kickstarter (I think it’s kickstarter) for it fails-which it should bcuz ppl who paid for this don’t get their $ back and funi wants to license it anwya.
Omg do you know of ANY anime like that show? I can’t find any. Fushigi was terrible after

Ew that KS was so gross. They refused to say what it was for and even admitted the DVD and bluray would still get released, so wtf.
Escaflowne is in a category of itself. Until today I have yet to watch a show as good as it, it was so balanced from the romance, to the action and the amazing story, fuck yeah!
If you haven’t watched old anime like Card Captor Sakura, get on it. Clamp anime tends to be real good!
        Fushigi Yuugi………it gets better
Omg have you seen Ayashi no Ceres? It became my obsession and why I started reading manga, because I discovered it came from a manga and I wanted more. Dunno how well it holds up today, it’s been so long since I’ve seen it heh

Ikr it’s so sad that nothing will ever be like it. I have to recommend to you Wolf’s Rain (all on youtube in both english which is FANTASTIC btw and the Japanese) and Moribito. Both of these are in their own category just like Escaflowne and was the reason I fell in love with anime.
And yes!!! I loved it when I was younger but lol there’s so much implied rape that I never caught before.

Oh yeah, shoujo tends towards the rape-y content ugh
Oh I’ve been recommended Earth Girl Arjuna and The Twelve Kingdoms for shows like Escaflowne. Interestingly, Maaya and Yoko Kanno also worked in Arjuna series! ヽ(*´з`*)ノ

It’s better than me suffering with the manga. So I wait for the seasons to finish before watching them. Because I’m waiting for the manga to finish so I can read it. It’s suffering to watch ongoing series.
        I’m the saddest that Oofuri/Big Windup only got one season, fucking love it and the manga is still ongoing ;_;
Speaking of, I haven’t watched any otome anime besides La Corda season 1 lol I’ll blame that they got few seasons /coughs at Ouran too/
        Oooh oh oh oh, have you watched Sa…sai…saiyunkoki (?) Monogatari? I haven’t but I know it’s a reverse harem~

If you want to learn, it honestly isn’t too bad. The language has set syllables and pronunciation rules that we already know ^^ The only difficulty is their writing system(s) and grammar.

You knew that Taishou Alice got locale by E2 right? I’m gonna cry. They change the theme song. The game itself is perfect, why did they do that?! And I dont even know if the translate is suck as last time. I wanna buy TaiAli but not a broken game like that…
Leaf-san, you should play TaiAli in Jp. One of wonderful part of TaiAli is puns. If you play in English you couldnt know about that part. And like I said, E2 already broken the game, it’s not worth to buy or support them.

    Dear Leafy-san,
Hello. I am a young girl from Pakistan. I love anime and manga and lately I have become interested in Drama CDs as well. I stumbled across your blog looking for more information about Thanatos Night. I had been looking for reviews, summaries, etc. anything I could find since my Japanese is limited. I was wondering if you would be willing to take a few song translation requests for me? If so, please respond, and I will send you the list of songs. You are welcome to e-mail me too, but please keep in mind that I do not have Internet access 24/7. Therefore, I may take some time to respond.
Thanks once again for your work here and take care.

    Sincerely,

I would love to do this in the future though! ^^ I’m always studying Japanese so I’m sure that day will come soon. Thank you for the request and feel free to always ask me anything! Take care!

Hello, I am a Phd researcher from Concordia University’s Communications program, & I am looking for interviewees for my project on otome games, and otome game players outside of Japan. I’ve read your reviews on otome games, and I would really love to know your take on otome games, the otome game market, the role that fans have in shaping both of them, and the way blogs help in expanding audiences for otome games. Is there any way I can directly message you? I mean, I don’t have a Twitter so.. :,)

I wanted to request a drama cd translation. I wouldn’t mind compensating you for it, either. It’s one of the volumes of THANATOS NiGHT re:Vival.

      Hello, Miu!

Wow, that’s so cool 😀 And aw thank you so much, that was so sweet of you.

Of course, you can message me any time you’d like at leafsannoyumega@gmail.com.

I’m honestly not that far in my Japanese, to be perfectly honest, so I may not be the best person for this. I do plan on getting those cds and translating them, but I don’t know when. I appreciate your offer but right now, with the limited Japanese I know, I wouldn’t feel right taking any money since my translation wouldn’t be up to par. I will more than likely be posting translations of future drama cds onto this site for free, as practice, so I hope that may be of use to you ^^

Again, I appreciate it. If you want to talk about anything, feel free to comment here or email me. Take care!
